Located near Buckland Monachorum, The Garden House is a delightful series of naturalistic gardens combining a vast array of rare and unusual plants to memorable effect.
From late January to mid-April, the Bulb Meadow is carpeted with thousands of bulbs – the display begins with snowdrops, cyclamen and irises, followed by dwarf daffodils and one of the country’s finest colonies of Erythronium revolutum.
In The Meadow you will find a rich mix of bulbous and non-bulbous species including thousands of Fritillaria meleagris; or seek out some of the garden’s rhododendrons, including fragrant Rhododendron ‘Lady Alice Fitzwilliam’. The Quarry Garden uses well-drained banks to grow a range of tender plants against a backdrop of pools and cascades, while the Cottage Garden is home to an amazing range of flower colours and forms from April to October.
The South African Garden is one of the garden’s most dazzling areas, planted with a huge range of species including kniphofias, crocosmias and dieramas, one of the garden’s ‘signature’ plants.
RHS members can visit The Garden House free of charge at weekends in February and every Friday, March–October inclusive (Member 1 only).
